A street park is a collection of streets where people feel it’s as pleasant and safe to walk and cycle as in a park. They are almost identical to the best Low-Traffic Neighbourhoods. In a street park, the road layout is designed to prevent motor vehicles taking short cuts through the area, but will still allow residents, delivery drivers, recycling lorries and emergency vehicles to access all properties.

This isn’t a new idea. Most housing estates built since the second world war are designed so that long-distance traffic can’t take short cuts through them.
